“Play to the gallery” is an installation by Jung, which was shown at the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne from January 15 to 21, 2018, parallel to the imm cologne.
The LS 990 switch made Jung a pioneer in its field in the 1960s: it is square, reduced to the essentials and the first flat switch to become the standard. In 2018, the classic from Jung is now celebrating its 50th birthday.
To mark the anniversary, the four Master’s students from the Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Design Sarah Gmelin, Marielle Kanne, Mona Makebrandt and Marisa Spieker developed the installation “Play to the gallery” in collaboration with Jung, which approaches the switch system in an unconventional way.
The visitor’s movement triggers the camera function – the photo taken in long exposure documents the activity from a bird’s eye view.
The central part of the installation is a switch attached to a screen. When this is pressed by a visitor, a photo with a long exposure is triggered. The elapsed time is displayed on the screen; meanwhile, a strip of light shows the way to the camera.
The light strip is illuminated by 74 video-playable M12-500 LED strips in 6500K from Schnick-Schnack-Systems in a click profile.
For the Salone del Mobile 2018 in Milan, the installation will be expanded to include additional interactive elements, such as a swing, a seesaw and a rotating carousel.
